Bullying Prevention

Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School takes all reports of harassment and bullying very seriously. Each report is investigated by school officials. The school’s first priority is to make each student feel that they are in an environment where they are safe and can freely embrace all opportunities for learning.

Definition of Bullying

According to the Ohio Revised Code (ORC 3313.66(B)(E), bullying, harassment, and intimidation is defined in Ohio school as any intentional written, verbal, graphic or physical act that a student or group of students exhibits towards another particular student more than once, and that behavior both:

  • Causes mental or physical harm to the other student; and
  • Is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that is creates an intimidating or abusive educational environment for the other student

According to the Student Handbook (p. 27), Rule 12, Harassment/Intimidation: “No student shall repeatedly, in an ongoing, persistent manner, annoy or attack using physical, verbal, written, or electronic action which creates fear of harm, an intimidating or hostile education or work environment, without subjecting the victim to actual physical attack (i.e. bullying, hazing, and threat of harm). (This includes) Use of language, conduct or symbols in such a manner as to be commonly understood to convey hatred, contempt, or prejudice or to have the effect of insulting, intimidating or stigmatizing an individual or group of individuals.”

When reports of bullying are substantiated, students who are the perpetrators of bullying will receive disciplinary consequences. This includes one or more of the following: Out of School Suspension, In-School Suspension, After-School Detention, Self-Reflection Paperwork

What We’re Doing Proactively

The school has created Positive Behavior Intervention Support Systems, character-building initiatives, and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Bullying education. Please see the link to “Deer Park PBIS” for more information.

Whenever it is believed that a student is the victim of bullying, the student or the student’s parent/guardian should report this to a school administrator, counselor, or other staff member. The school will investigate This includes knowing about a separate student who is the victim of bullying. Additionally, the report can be completed using the following link: Student Bullying Reporting

Retaliation against any person who reports or is thought to have reported bullying will not be tolerated. This includes threats, physical intimidation, and verbal confrontations (for example, use of the word “snitch”). Such retaliation may also result in disciplinary actions.

Purposely creating false reports about bullying, harassment, or intimidation is also prohibited and may result in disciplinary actions.
