The Board of Education approved alumnus Greg Huster to the Athletic Director position at the June 7, 2018 regular board meeting.
“It feels good to be home,” Huster said. “I grew up and graduated from Deer Park High School and am a proud alumnus. I enjoyed my time at Davenport University, and I am truly grateful for the chance to help mold students in the mission of Deer Park Schools: to provide ALL students with every opportunity to achieve their future goals."
Huster joins the district following 17 years of coaching football at the collegiate and high school levels. In his most recent position, the 1996 Deer Park graduate aided in the creation of the football program at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Beginning in 2015, Huster served as the Defensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach for the Panthers, helping lead the program to a winning record (6-5) in its inaugural season. Huster was also at the helm of the third-ranked defense in the nation in NCAA Division II.
Prior to his time at Davenport, Huster was the Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at his college alma mater, Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. He has also worked as the Director of Recruiting for the University of Cincinnati, the Defensive Coordinator at Seton Hill University, Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Saint Joseph’s College, and a Graduate Assistant at Cincinnati.
Huster earned his Bachelor of Science and Liberal Arts from Mount St. Joseph in 2000, where he was a four-year starter and team captain of the football team.
During his time at Deer Park, Huster was a varsity football team captain, member of the National Honor Society and recipient of the C.R. Piercey Scholarship Award, designed to recognize student-athletes who have demonstrated exceedingly high levels of scholarship, citizenship, and sportsmanship.
“The Deer Park athletic department encompasses a professional and highly motivated staff, working together with our families and the Deer Park community to build leaders, graduate our players and forge champions,” Huster said. “I am honored and excited to embrace the mission and vision that makes Deer Park Community Schools the place to be."
