Dear Deer Park Families:

At a Special Board of Education meeting held yesterday afternoon, the decision was made to move forward with a return to full-time, face-to-face instruction beginning Monday, October 5th. The Board of Education will hold another special board meeting next Tuesday, September 29th at 4:00 p.m. to officially approve the full-time restart date as well as an updated school calendar.  Below are the details for the October 5th restart.

  • All students currently attending school in the hybrid model will begin attending school full-time, five (5) days per week on Monday, October 5th.

  • All students who chose the remote option and are currently attending school virtually full-time will continue attending school through the end of the 1st semester virtually.  As was communicated at the beginning of the school year, students who chose the remote option will have the ability to return to face-to-face schooling at the start of the 3rd quarter which is Monday, January 4th.

  • Kindergarten students will continue attending school half-days through the end of this school year.

We know that a return to full-time, face-to-face schooling may cause some stress and feelings of concern for some of our students and parents.  If a student would like to switch from in-person schooling to our full-time remote learning option, we will permit that to happen. If a student would like to make that switch from face-to-face learning to full-time remote learning, please contact Dr. Stace Orso at orso.s@dpccsd.org.

Additional logistical details will be released next week. As always, we truly appreciate our families flexibility and understanding as we continue to navigate these trying times. We will continue to work to make decisions that keep our students and staff safe, but also allow us to provide the best education possible for all of our students.

Sincerely,

Jay Phillips
Superintendent
