The Amity Weekly Minute: October 25, 2020

Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

Conferences are this week, so please take a moment to sign up.  Now more than ever we look forward to meeting with our parents, even if it is digital, as we haven’t had the typical opportunities at open houses and other events to do so.  Sharing progress and areas that we can help each other will be important as we move forward into hybrid learning once again.  Please see instructions below on how to sign up.

Take Care,

Josh

Hybrid Schedule Update

Beginning tomorrow, October 26, students will move to the A/B hybrid model. Monday, October 26 will serve as an A Day and Tuesday, October 27 will serve as a B Day. Students will all be virtual on Wednesday, October 28 leading up to conference days on Thursday and Friday, which will not include any instruction.

Beginning Monday, November 2, all students will follow the A/B day schedules from the beginning of the school year. During Election Week, A day students will be in class on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3. We will have a remote day on Wednesday and B Day students will be in session on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6. We will continue with this model through the Thanksgiving holiday break. We will reassess in mid-November, based on current conditions, how we will continue school after Thanksgiving and through the Winter Holiday Break.

This week, kindergarten students will attend half days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (October 26-28). Conference days on Thursday and Friday (October 29-30) will remain as off days for students.

The following week, kindergarten students will attend all five days of school. This is a change from the original schedule, which included a Tuesday off-day because of Election Day. The week will now operate as a normal, full week of school.

Halloween Costumes

***We still want students to be able to wear a costume next week to celebrate Halloween. Below in bold is the changes to the days that students will dress up.***

  • Students in grades 1-6 will be allowed to dress in costumes on Monday, October 26th for “A” day students and Tuesday October 27th for “B” day students. Kindergarten students will dress up on Wednesday October 28th.
  • No makeup/face paint
  • No masks other than facial coverings due to COVID19
  • No weapons
  • Violent or offensive costumes may be asked to be modified at teachers’ discretion
  • If your student is not purchasing a costume this year, they can wear orange and black, wearing crazy socks for “Sock-Tober”, or dress in a costume they create from home as they do on our spirit days. (Cowboy/girl, doctor, person on vacation, Superhero, etc.)
  • Please have students wear the costumes to school that day, as we will not be changing into them.
  • Please make sure students are able to wear the costumes comfortably for the entire day. We still want students focused on their academics.
  • Please leave small pieces of the costume that could be lost at home.
  • There will be no Halloween parade that day.
  • Please do not send candy or food to school that day.

Grade Cards

Hard copies of grade cards went home on Friday, October 23rd. For grades 3-6 there is slight change on how we are reporting out academic progress due to being in a hybrid learning setting. We recognize that it was tough for some families to provide academic support to their students while they were learning away from Amity. We have changed from giving a percentage grade 1st quarter in grades 3-6 to using the check system that is currently implemented in our grades K-2. These checks will be listed under “HYBRID LEARNING GRADE” on the report card and reflect a students academic progress during hybrid learning.

Grade Cards for Deer Park Remote Learning Academy

Grade cards for our Remote Learning Academy students in grades K-5 were mailed out this weekend. Please be looking for them in the mail. 6th Grade report cards will be mailed out early next week. All gradecards will reflect the same checkmark evaluation system that our in person students are using.

Road Closure- Monday November 2nd

The intersection of Galbraith Road at Blue Ash road will be completely closed on Monday, November 2nd. For parents and staff, an alternate route if you are traveling westbound on Galbraith would be to turn right on either Monroe Ave. or St. Clair Ave, go down to Kugler Mill, and turn left onto Kugler Mill. Take this across Blue Ash road and turn left on Beech which will then take you to Amity. Eastbound traffic on going to the school will not be affected. Make sure you give yourself a little extra time this day.

Holiday Assistance

With the leaves beginning to change, we’re reminded that the holidays will be here before we know it. If you and your family are in need of assistance this holiday season, fill out a Holiday Food Drive form. All the buildings have forms available and the forms were also sent home with students. More information can be found HERE.

In Case You Missed It

Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders For Car Riders

Please help us by not using your cell phone while in the drop off and pick up car lines.   With children moving in a lot of directions, we want our parents focused on their surroundings and able to hear any directions from teachers.

Please also help us by not smoking within your cars while going through pick up and drop off lines.   We understand that you are in your personal car, but Amity is a tobacco free campus, so we really want to uphold that standard for our students.

Wickshire Senior Living Drive Through Trick Or Treat

Wickshire Senior Living will be hosting a drive through trick or treat on Wednesday, October 28th from 3:00-5:00.   This is the same day we will be dressing up at Amity, so it could be an easy stop before heading home.     Please see the flyer below for more details.

Neighborhood Traffic At Arrival and Dismissal

With bringing all students back and not being able to provide a shuttle due to COVID19, we have increased our traffic around Amity Elementary. Please remember to be respectful of our neighbors by not parking in their yards, blocking driveways, or using driveways to turn around. We want to forge strong relationships with our neighbors and your efforts can help!

Deer Park Dance Program is still accepting new dance registrations!

Dance classes are now in full swing, but will be accepting new registrations until November 6th. The non-profit community dance studio offers a variety of classes and levels including tiny tots, ballet, tap, flag, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, swing, pointe, clogging, pom and multi-discipline. Dancers can be age 3 through high school.  Please visit our website deerparkdance.org to view fee’s, covid policy, class schedule, etc. and reach out to us by email: thedeerpark.danceprogram@gmail.com or on Facebook with any questions or for additional information.

Outdoor Recess

With a return to cooler temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We are working hard to go out to recess daily, especially as it allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes in length this year so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.

"Sock"-tober

During the month of October, the Amity staff and students will be collecting NEW socks for the Deer Park Clothing Room located in the Holmes Building. Students, staff and community members are invited to drop off new pairs/ packages of socks. We are in need of infant, child and adult sizes.

We are looking for…

  • sports socks
  • fun socks
  • fuzzy socks,
  • any kinds of socks.

To end the “Sock”-tober collection, students and staff will have a “CRAZY SOCK” day on October 28th.
