Extended Remote Learning
Good afternoon,
As you likely know by now, Deer Park Jr/Sr High School is extending our remote learning days through Tuesday, November 24th. For more more information, please see this link to the press release from yesterday. In order to help students, families, and caregivers prepare as much as possible, we're sending out our Wildcat Weekly a little earlier this week.
We will continue with the Odd/Even pattern for school days through November 24th, meaning that this coming Monday will be an "Odd" day. For an updated calendar of Odd/Even days, please click here.
Please note that we will also begin taking official attendance records starting next week. Details are below.
We thank you again for your continued flexibility and support for your students throughout these remote learning weeks! As always, please feel free to reach out to administrators, counselors, and teachers with any questions you may have.
Have a great weekend,
Shane Hartley
Principal, Deer Park Jr/Sr High School

What's New?
Remote Learning Attendance: Starting this Monday, teachers will take attendance each morning to help track our students' participation while we remain on the remote learning model. The goal is to increase communication from our school to our families.
If you receive an automated phone call from us, please know that we are not simply marking students "absent," but that our teachers are also checking attendance each bell. If a student joins his/her/their class after being marked absent, the teacher will notify the office that the student is now "present." This is to ensure that students who may have started the day "absent" are not considered to be absent for the entire school day if/when they log onto their classes.
2020 Holiday Assistance: With the leaves beginning to change, we’re reminded that the holidays will be here before we know it. If you and your family are in need of assistance this holiday season, fill out a Holiday Food Drive form. All the buildings have forms available and the forms were also sent home with students. More information can be found HERE.
Vocational School Honor Roll: Congratulations to the following students who made it on the 1st quarter honor roll for our vocational schools: Shelby Bates (Diamond Oaks), Dominic Marcum, and Shyanne Musick (Scarlet Oaks). Well done!
Tech Help?: Need some help with your students' Chromebook? If you have any tech issues, please email our Tech department at techhelp@dpccsd.org

Math Homework/Help Club is held every day after school, and the schedule is below. If a student is interested in getting help with online math, please contact the teacher below based on availability. The teachers can then work with students to set up remote learning assistance:

Suggestions for Remote Learners & Families
1. Establish a Daily Schedule: Set alarms/reminders using phones and calendar reminders to ensure that students are logging on at the start of each class. Use the Schoology App or a Google Calendar App to help set these reminders.
2. Establish a Location: As best as possible, find a comfortable, consistent, and quiet location to help maintain focus throughout the day.
3. Establish Healthy Habits: Have a snack in between classes, eat breakfast, and maintain consistent sleeping routines. While it can be tempting to stay up late, remember that students will still need to be attending classes each day from 8:10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
4. Establish Check-Ins: Without being in person, it may be easier for students to fall behind or forget assignments. Use Schoology, calendars, and even good old fashioned paper and pencil to keep track of assignments and due dates. Be sure to check every few days to ensure that students are staying up to date, and parents/caretakers should ALWAYS feel free to reach out to teachers with any questions.
