What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I know that when we think about February in Elementary school, trading valentines always comes to mind.
While we celebrated this holiday on Friday, we are also in the midst of celebrating Black History Month at Amity. Our classes are researching prominent African Americans from the past and present. From this research they will decorate doors, hallway spaces, and bulletin boards within the building! So while it's Valentine’s Day today, I want to also wish you a Happy Black History Month as well!
Take Care,
Josh

Weekly Spotlight- Valentines for Vets!
Second Graders love our Veterans! From honoring them on Veteran’s Day, to making valentine posters to be placed in hospital rooms at the Veteran’s Hospital, these kiddos truly understand and honor the bravery and sacrifices made for our freedom.

Virtual Spotlight- National Sign Museum
Last week, Amity virtual learners took a virtual field trip through the American Sign Museum, located right here in Cincinnati! The tour featured a trip through the years of storefront signs and how they have changed over several decades. Students even created their own signs for their favorite business or a brand new company!

Due to COVID19, we will be meeting virtually or by phone once again. There will be no school on Thursday, March 11th because of conference night.
Champions Is Open During Spring Break
Spring break doesn’t have to mean a break from the family routines you’ve worked hard to reclaim. This year, we’re making the most of out-of-school time by helping elementary schoolers (up to 12 years old) reconnect with friends and make up for lost learning time. Join us for spring break held March 29th-April 2nd at Amity Elementary, located in the cafeteria! Cost is $40 a day and there will be a one-time enrollment fee of $50 or $75 for multi-family! Are you a teacher, military or a multi-family? Ask us about our discounts! We do accept subsidy! Want more information please call us today and speak with our site director Amber Meece!

No School: Monday, February 15th
Just a reminder that there is no school for PreK-12th grade on Monday, February 15th. School is off that day as it is President’s Day.
In Case You Missed It
Parking On Galbraith Road During Dismissal
We need your help by not parking on Galbraith Road in front Amity. We are running into problems with Deer Park buses and daycare buses not being able to get to their pick-up spots because cars are parked and waiting for students. I understand there is a lot of traffic around the building at the end of the day, but please help us by using our carpool lines or parking on the streets surrounding Amity and walking up to get your child. Your help is greatly appreciated!
No School- Friday, March 12th
There will be no school for students on Friday March 12th, as this has become an entire teachers records day to end 3rd quarter.

Writing Circles Opportunity
Please see the flyer below for an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to get involved in a writing group put on by Women Writing for a change.

Outdoor Recess
With a return to cold temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We are currently going outside whenever the “feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or above. This gives our students time to burn some energy and allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes in length this year so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.
Attendance
Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, if your student is going to be out.
This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary. Thanks for all your help!
Amity Cat News
