What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
We already have had one more holiday at Amity that we didn’t get to celebrate last year… St. Patrick’s Day! It was fun to see students in our younger grades design traps to try to catch a leprechaun! While we were unsuccessful in catching one of those tricky leprechauns, there was definitely learning happening!
While this seems like just a fun project, it actually is pushing the design and engineering aspects of STEAM focused learning. (STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.) If your child completed the project this year, or even in the past, you probably heard them come home with new ideas on how to make their trap better for next year. That component of continual refinement is another emerging educational focus. It's no longer just about the final product, but the process to get there!
Just like those leprechauns, our teachers can be tricky in getting our students to learn and grow!
Take Care,
Josh

Spring Ohio State Test Dates
We will be taking the Ohio State Test this spring in grades 3-6. We want our students to show what they know, so it will be important that they come in with a solid breakfast and plenty of rest. We will continue to prepare them daily for these assessments. Should your child be out on one of these dates, make ups will be administered as soon as possible.

Amity Spirit Week
Amity will be hosting a spirit week March 22nd-26th. Please encourage your child to participate as we head into spring break!

3rd Quarter Awards
We will recognize our students that received a 3rd quarter academic award on Wednesday, March 24th. Unfortunately we can’t invite parents into the building to view the awards ceremony due to COVID19 safety measures. We are working to provide an individual picture of the students who receive an award. Following the ceremony, teachers will be reaching out by phone, email, or a note to inform you of why the awarded student received the honor.
In Case You Missed It
Food Box Distributions
Thursday, March 25
Community Lighthouse Church of God (located at 4305 Sycamore Rd.) will be distributing a free hot meal to families on Thursday, March 25 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Saturday, March 27th
If you or a family you know is in need of food assistance, please see the flyer below from Hamilton County’s Early Intervention Program.

Mask Ordinance and District Policies
We want to take a moment to remind all of our district families that Governor Mike DeWine has not lifted the mask mandate in the state of Ohio.
We are happy that cases have been relatively low in the district through the last several weeks, we must remain diligent throughout the rest of the year in order to maintain our recent successes.
With that said, it is important to remind everyone that students and staff will all still be required to wear a mask while in district buildings moving forward. We are hopeful that this may not be the case next fall, but for now, it is important that we continue to practice proper protocols regarding COVID-19.

Kids Heart Challenge
Our Kids Heart Challenge is back! We will be kicking off our Kids Heart Challenge event beginning Monday, March 1 until Friday March 26th! The Kids Heart Challenge is an educational resource that is a part of the American Heart Association. During our event, all students in grades 1-6 will learn about ways to keep their hearts, mind and bodies healthy through fun engaging heart activities paired with our jump rope unit. Students will have the opportunity to raise money for kids with heart complications and earn fun prizes while doing so! Last year, our K-3rd graders raised over $3,200 for the American Heart Association! You can get started by registering your child at heart.org/KHC. Please reach out to Mrs. Fowler if you have any questions.
The end of the 3rd quarter was Wednesday, March 10th. Grade cards will be sent home in backpacks on Friday, March 19th.
Festival of the Arts
Congratulations to all of our artists who have artwork chosen for the annual art show at the Blue Ash Recreation Center. The hours for public viewing are Monday-Friday 8:00am-8:00pm and Saturday-Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm. Don't miss out on an opportunity to see your child's wonderful artwork!
Champions Is Open During Spring Break
Spring break doesn’t have to mean a break from the family routines you’ve worked hard to reclaim. This year, we’re making the most of out-of-school time by helping elementary schoolers (up to 12 years old) reconnect with friends and make up for lost learning time. Join us for spring break held March 29th-April 2nd at Amity Elementary, located in the cafeteria! Cost is $40 a day and there will be a one-time enrollment fee of $50 or $75 for multi-family! Are you a teacher, military or a multi-family? Ask us about our discounts! We do accept subsidy! Want more information please call us today and speak with our site director Amber Meece!

6th Grade Remote Learning Academy Information
Middle school students (grades 6-8): If you would like to work with a high school tutor, please come to Wednesday Help Sessions from 9:50-10:30 by scrolling down to Wednesday's activities and clicking on the link in the Middle School Links and Extra Activities. Find out who the tutors are by watching their videos here: Meet the High School Tutors. These videos are also posted in BAND and in the "Middle School Links and Extra Activities."
Writing Circles Opportunity
Please see the flyer below for an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to get involved in a writing group put on by Women Writing for a change.

Attendance
Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, if your student is going to be out.
This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary. Thanks for all your help!
Amity Cat News
The Amity Cat News is up and running. Our student led morning announcement is scheduled to post every morning at 7:45 so your student can stay connected with what is going on whether they are at school or at home. The link to the youtube channel is below
