Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Amity Families,

We are happy to have completed our Ohio State Tests this week! While we won’t get our results back till late summer, it is always a big relief for our students and staff to have them done. Even with the tests behind us, we will still have a strong focus of academics the last couple weeks of school. Our teachers will be sure to mix in a little bit of fun to celebrate the end of the school year as well! It will be a great couple of weeks!

Take Care,

Josh

MAP Testing

We will begin our Spring MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing for grades 1st-6th grade this week. MAP testing allows us to measure academic growth in our students in the areas of Reading and Math over the course of the year. They took this same test in September, January, and now in May to see this progress. While it is not a high stakes test, we want our students to do as well as they can on it.

Kindergarten Students Last Day of School

The last day of Kindergarten classes for AM and PM kindergarten will be Wednesday, May 26th. We wanted both groups to celebrate their last day on the same day, and go into summer as a class! They had a great year!

6th Grade Social

The Deer Park PTO is happy to share that we will be having a Sixth Grade Social this year! Although it's going to be happening soon, we've confirmed the social will be on Friday, May 21st from 7-9 p.m. for all current 6th graders.

In preparation, here are the details about the dance:

  • We understand that there are some that might not be comfortable having their students come to the dance, and we completely understand, but please know that we will be taking ALL precautions to keep everyone safe.

  • Masks will be worn at all times.

  • We will have numerous stations for hand sanitizing.

  • Snacks will be provided, but students will have to step into the courtyard area to eat their snacks.

  • Students should arrive through the main entrance at Amity at 7:00pm to check-in, and should be picked up at the main entrance at 9:00pm. Please make sure you are ON TIME for pick-up. NO student will be able to walk home from the dance.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email the Deer Park PTO at dppto2012@gmail.com.

Water Bottles

Please help us by sending your child to school daily with a water bottle. While we have disposable bottles in case of emergencies, we have some students that are relying on these disposable water bottles. I know it is one more thing to pack in the morning, but we appreciate your help!

Virtual Art Show and Art To Remember Orders

Last call to order your keepsakes from Art to Remember with your child's artwork on it. Orders are due Tuesday, May 4th if you want your keepsakes shipped to the school and given out before the school year ends. If you miss the deadline, you can still purchase keepsakes and ship to your home address instead. - Mrs. Laine Amity Art Teacher

Be sure to check out your child's artwork here:

Reminders For 6th Graders In Deer Park Virtual Academy

As we near the end of the school year,  some of you have forgotten to complete journals, activities, explore assignments, projects, etc. from units you have already moved past, and we want to be sure you earn the highest grade you can.

By the following due dates, you will need to complete late missing assignments in order to earn points on them.  Otherwise, the grades will change to zero.

In some classes, certain lessons have been omitted from the program, and due dates have been spread across the quarter.  As long as you are meeting the due dates in your Apex calendar, you do not need to be concerned about the late work due dates listed below. The due dates below are only for assignments that you previously skipped and are now overdue.

You should already have completed late missing assignments for Unit 1.  Here are the remaining due dates:

For grades 6-11:

By 5/7, please complete all late Units 2-3 missing work to earn a grade.

By 5/14,  please complete all late Unit 4 missing work to earn a grade.

By 5/21, please complete all late Unit 5 missing work to earn a grade.

If you need help figuring out how to do any of this missing work, please pop into one of the help sessions noted in High School Links and Extra Activities and Middle School Links and Extra Activities.  You may also email or BAND-message Ms. Apke or Ms. Hibbett anytime for help.

6th Grade Remote Learning Academy Information

Middle school students (grades 6-8): If you would like to work with a high school tutor, please come to Wednesday Help Sessions from 9:50-10:30 by scrolling down to Wednesday's activities and clicking on the link in the Middle School Links and Extra Activities. Find out who the tutors are by watching their videos here: Meet the High School Tutors. These videos are also posted in BAND and in the "Middle School Links and Extra Activities."

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord.    We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.   Thanks for all your help!
