A Message from the Administrators
Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Families:
We are off and running as a Deer Park High School Family. We are getting into classrooms daily and we are focused and on-track with research- based best practice teaching strategies.
It’s exciting to see our after school events launching and our after school clubs forming. Our first football game drew a great crowd! We want to thank the following members of our High School Staff who attended the game: Jim Wergers, Scott Calcaterra, and Elizabeth Moore. The students gravitate to our Staff who attend the after school events and we thank you for attending the game. Also, we want to thank Peggy Bosse for her work celebrating the Hall of Fame members who came out to the game who were recognized at half time and Chris Huster for all of her hospitality treating the class of 1971 to a special evening.
Kind regards,
Bob and Mindy

Classroom Highlight
Teaching and Learning is our priority 1 at Deer Park High School during the academic day. Bob stopped in Suzy Beck’s English 10 College Prep class. The unit Suzy Beck and her students were focused on was “American Dream.” The unit was crafted from Standard RL.10.2-Analyze literary text development. Determine the theme of a text and analyze in detail its development over that course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details.
Students entered the classroom to a bell ringer Padlet focused on finding images, words, and phrases related to the idea of the American Dream. Students were encouraged to use their Writer’s Notebooks where a previous entry was created about the American Dream through research findings and brainstorming. The Success Criterion that Suzy used to ensure all students mastered the standard taught was using the Padlet as a formative assessment of the students prior knowledge of the American Dream. The students’ Writer’s Notebook entry was used as a formative assessment, and Suzy observed completion and understanding as students were working.
Thank you Suzy for challenging your students with a high leverage instructional period!
