The Amity Weekly Minute: August 29, 2021

Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

We conducted our first fire drill of the year on Tuesday morning. All of our students and staff did a wonderful job of exiting quickly and quietly from the building. We will have drills every month, and will practice a safety drill for lock-downs as well as tornado drills in the spring. We will continue to train and practice our drills in an effort to keep everyone safe!

Take Care,

In Case You Missed It

Tips To Help With Arrivals and Dismissals

Thank you so much for all your help and patience as we work on arrivals and dismissals daily.   We are starting to get into a groove with both, but with some minor tweaks we believe we can improve both processes.

  • Please try to remain in your car when dropping off and picking up students.   We realize there might be times that it has to occur, but building a routine where students get out or in the car on their own will help speed processes.   Our staff is always there to help.

  • Please pull all the way forward to the furthest cone when entering parking lots.   While it might require students to walk a little further, it allows for more cars to enter, and speeds the process.

  • Please don’t park in the staff parking spots in front of the office in the morning.   We need to reserve these spots for staff arriving in the morning.

Thank you for also being respectful of our neighbors by not blocking or turning around in their driveways.   We appreciate your help!

COVID Protocol Updates for 2021-2022

I just wanted to briefly update you on the COVID protocols for the 2021-2022 school year.

  • Masking requirements were shared in an email from Jay Phillips on August 18th. Please read the release below.

  • We are limiting our visitors to Amity this year to those that are invited in for educational purposes. Please plan to say goodbye to your student at the door. We will have plenty of staff available to help get them to their classroom.

Wellness Check:

  • We ask you to once again complete a wellness check of your child prior to sending them to school each day. We will not take temperatures at the door this year, but will have greeters there to check in on our students as they enter the building.

Water Bottles:

  • Please send your child in with a filled water bottle daily. Our water fountain spigots will once again be covered this year. Water bottle filling stations will be available, and are attached to our water fountains.

  • Air filtration units have been added to each classroom at Amity.

  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the school.

  • Teachers will teach and emphasize the importance of hand washing and respiratory etiquette when coughing or sneezing.

  • Students will hand sanitize prior to, and after, using shared materials.

  • Students may be mixed amongst grade level classrooms for academic purposes such as band/chorus or intervention groups.

  • We will have assigned seats should the need arise for contact tracing.

  • Students eating breakfast in the morning will be assigned tables based upon their grade level.

Sandy's Closet Clothing Room Now Open
