The Amity Weekly Minute: September 5, 2021

Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Amity Families,

This school year we’ve added an additional routine to start our days at Amity Elementary. In the past we’ve always welcomed our students, said the Pledge of Allegiance, and told them to make it a great day.

In working with our teachers to start the school year, we wanted to make sure that our district mission statement inspired everyone, including our students. Our district mission statement is “Inspiring and Empowering Lifelong Success”. We decided to turn this mission statement into our Amity Pledge, “Today at Amity, I will be inspired, I will be empowered, and I will succeed!” Our teachers have worked with our students to help them understand what some of these complicated words mean, even to our youngest students! We hope that by saying it together, we know what we are striving for daily from Preschool to 6th grade!

Inspire. Empower. Succeed.

Josh

MAP Testing

MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing in reading, reading fluency and math will start occurring throughout the month of September. This will encompass all of our grades at Amity. This is not a high stakes test, like the Ohio State Tests, but we do always want our students to do their best. These online tests allow us to understand where students are currently in the tested subject area, so that we are better able to tailor how we teach them. I just wanted to keep you informed that this will be occurring in our classes. We will take these tests in the fall, winter, and spring to check progress along the way.

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.

Thanks for all your help!
