What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
Your child came home this week with a water bottle with our PBIS motto of Respectful, Responsible, and Safe on it. This was a kind gift from our friends at Kenwood Baptist Church. They wanted to give something to all of our students to start the year, and choose water bottles when they found out our water fountains would be closed down once again. I wrote about it this summer after our students made a donation to a local charity, and I’ll say it again. It is the generosity of our community which teaches our students to be generous to others. That is one of the beautiful things about this community!
I hope your child enjoyed the gift and has at least put their name on it to make it theirs! Stickers or other decorations will also make it personable to them and could be a fun weekend project!
Thank you to Kenwood Baptist for this kind gift, and the numerous other groups that give back to our students at Amity every year!
Take Care,
Josh

Church of Christ Parking Lot
I just wanted to make parents aware that the Church of Christ parking lot will be closed Monday September 20th as they start a renovation on their Church. I know that some parents use this as a meet up point for their children, so it might be a good idea to get into new meet up routines before it is closed next week.
Terrace Metrics Social/Emotional Strengths and Needs Survey
Deer Park Community School District is proud to provide an innovative assessment service to students and their families to guide our support of students’ social/emotional needs. All students in grades 6 to 12 will be given the opportunity to complete a brief assessment that assesses social/emotional strengths and needs. This assessment, provided by Terrace Metrics, will begin this week. Each grade level is scheduled for a day this fall and another day this spring.
The results of the assessment are confidential; no teacher will have access to your child’s results. Only members of the school’s response team (e.g., counselors, school psychologists) will see student’s results, which are available immediately after the assessment is completed. This allows us to understand the strengths and needs of every student, including those who would benefit from additional strategies. If your child has endorsed high distress, a member of the school’s response team will contact you by phone to discuss next steps. One of these steps may include a “Clairity” assessment, provided by Clarigent Health. Clairity involves a private, ten-minute interview where the student is asked about their thoughts and feelings by a trained member of the response team. The interview is securely recorded and the speech patterns (rather than the answers themselves) are analyzed to assist the response team in determining the appropriate course of action for the student.
For more information or to opt your child out of this survey, please click here.
NEEDS Organization Thank You!
Deer Park Schools would like to thank the NEEDS Organization for their generous donation of gift cards, clothing, and school supplies to our district. NEEDS is consistently one of our biggest donors of miscellaneous items, including those listed above, to provide help to our Deer Park families. Thank you NEEDS!

In Case You Missed It
MAP Testing
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing in reading, reading fluency and math will start occurring throughout the month of September. This will encompass all of our grades at Amity. This is not a high stakes test, like the Ohio State Tests, but we do always want our students to do their best. These online tests allow us to understand where students are currently in the tested subject area, so that we are better able to tailor how we teach them. I just wanted to keep you informed that this will be occurring in our classes. We will take these tests in the fall, winter, and spring to check progress along the way.
Attendance
Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.
This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.
Thanks for all your help!
School Nurse
Moving forward, all student COVID-19 cases occurring outside of school hours (evenings/weekends) should be submitted in one of the following ways:
A district nurse or administrator will reach out within 24 hours of the reported case to collect further details.

Please come and join this wonderful organization which supports our students and staff at Amity. The PDC is located next to the library in Amity. Enter the main entrance and go up the staircase to the right upon entering to reach the PDC.
