The History of Deer Park
Did you know that Deer Park Schools was originally chartered in 1826, making it one of the oldest school districts in the Cincinnati area? In 1826, pioneer Daniel Schenk donated a plot of land directly across from the current Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School, where a one-room schoolhouse was erected.
Schenk named the school Amity, meaning friendship. The history of Deer Park Schools runs deep, as illustrated by retired Amity Elementary teacher and Deer Park historian Cindy Homan in the following video, “Deer Park Schools, An Oral History.” The short documentary takes you through the entire history of Deer Park, from Schenk in the 1800s all the way to today!
