What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
I wrote several weeks ago about our commitment to safety through practicing a variety of drills throughout the year. Our district also increases our safety through the hiring of a School Security Officer (SSO). Our School Security Officers are dressed in civilian clothes and are armed, but their weapons are not visible to our students, as we don’t want to alarm them.
Brent Kahle is our new School Security Officer at Amity. He just recently retired from the Delhi Township Police Department after spending 26 years there. From day one Brent has worked hard to be visible and also connect with students and staff. While he is new to the sport, you can even find him refereeing a game of gaga ball on the playground from time to time! I know we are all glad to have Brent as part of our team at Amity!
Take Care,
Josh

Fall Picture Information
Fall pictures will be occurring this Wednesday, September 22nd. All students will have the pictures taken, regardless if they plan on purchasing photos. Picture information packets were sent home this past week in our students' backpacks. Additional packets are available in the main office. Friday, September 24th- No School For Students
Our teachers will be having a professional development day on Friday, September 24th. There will be no school for students that day.
National Voter Registration Day
Tuesday, Sept 28th is National Voter Registration Day. Deer Park residents can utilize our Deer Park Branch Library for several different things regarding voter registration.
-
You can visit the library for assistance with voter registration. The library can take applications for voting registration as well as mail in voting applications.
-
If you are unsure, the library can also tell you if you are already registered to vote.
-
Finally, the library can also tell you which precinct to should vote at.
The Deer Park Branch Library is open on Tuesday, Sept. 28th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Church of Christ Parking Lot
I just wanted to make parents aware that the Church of Christ parking lot will be closed Monday September 20th as they start a renovation on their Church. I know that some parents use this as a meet up point for their children, so it might be a good idea to get into new meet up routines before it is closed next week.

In Case You Missed It
NEEDS Organization Thank You!

Deer Park-Reading Job Fair
Deer Park Schools and Reading Schools will be hosting a combined job fair with Rachel Wixey & Associates, our substitute management provider. We'll be hosting on-site interviews for Substitute Aide, Substitute Secretary, and Substitute Food Service workers.
Stop by the Holmes Education Center (8688 Donna Lane) on Thursday, September 23 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to learn more about the positions. Make sure to bring your resume.
For more information, please contact Rachel Wixey & Associates at 419-725-9499.
MAP Testing
MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing in reading, reading fluency and math will start occurring throughout the month of September. This will encompass all of our grades at Amity. This is not a high stakes test, like the Ohio State Tests, but we do always want our students to do their best. These online tests allow us to understand where students are currently in the tested subject area, so that we are better able to tailor how we teach them. I just wanted to keep you informed that this will be occurring in our classes. We will take these tests in the fall, winter, and spring to check progress along the way.
Attendance
Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.
This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.
Thanks for all your help!
School Nurse
Moving forward, all student COVID-19 cases occurring outside of school hours (evenings/weekends) should be submitted in one of the following ways:
A district nurse or administrator will reach out within 24 hours of the reported case to collect further details.
PTO Meeting
Our PTO will host its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 PM in the Amity PDC. Please come and join this wonderful organization which supports our students and staff at Amity. The PDC is located next to the library in Amity. Enter the main entrance and go up the staircase to the right upon entering to reach the PDC.
