A Message from the Administrators
Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Families:
What a great week in our academic classrooms and in the many after school events/clubs that took place. We are hitting on all cylinders at Deer Park High School! Each week brings more examples of what makes Mindy and I proud to be part of the Deer Park Family.
I was at the varsity soccer game this week and our girls were competing against Western Hills High School. We won the game handily. Congratulations to our girls!! What really impressed me was how we won. The team we were competing against was giving their all but we were a much more skilled soccer team and our girls were scoring at will. What happened next made me proud to be a Deer Park Wildcat.
Brad Schedt (Our Girls Head Soccer Coach) did not run up the score which would have been very easy to do. He and our girls took the high road and our team began working on their passing skills and kept the score in-check so as to not embarrass Western Hills. I couldn’t be more proud of our student athletes for being role models for the opposing team and as important as competing with class and dignity. Great job!!
Kind regards,
Bob and Mindy

Classroom Highlight
Teaching and Learning is priority one at Deer Park High School. This week, I want to highlight rigorous instruction that took place in Ms. Godwin’s English 11 class.
She and her students are spending time reading and discussing "The Other Wes Moore," a memoir about two men who share the same name and a similar past, but have taken two very different paths in life.
Students spent time looking for examples of how the author discusses and develops topics and themes throughout the text, helping students build their ability to use evidence to support an idea as well as see how authors use different techniques to highlight themes of their work.
The instruction was crafted from the Ohio ELA standards RL. 11.1,2, and 3. To do this, students were asked to write down examples of the author addressing each theme in the text and place them in the appropriate place in a chart. Mrs. Godwin then used student examples to guide class discussion.
Super effort Ms. Godwin for challenging your English 11 students with rigorous classroom work. I was very impressed with the student’s critical thinking and the discussion that ensued!!
