Amity Elementary

What's New?

Amity Families,

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone is gearing up for a fun and safe night of trick or treating! We had a wonderful celebration with our staff and students on Wednesday. After some in class parties, we finally had our first outdoor Halloween parade! It was great to see our parents who made it out to cheer for our PreK-3 students.

Take Care,

Josh

Spectrum News Story On Amity STEP Store Program

Amity Elementary's partnership with the University of Cincinnati was recognized this past week on Spectrum News. Spectrum News came to do a story on the STEP store program that we run in grades 3-6. Special thanks to Hudson Siemon, 6th grade student, and Mrs. King for sharing the benefits that this program brings to our students! Both did an awesome job of being interviewed! Please click the link below to see the story!

Amity Veterans Day Program

In an effort to limit potential COVID-19 exposure to our veterans, parents are unable to attend the Veterans Day Tribute this year. However, 2nd grade parents are invited to the Veterans Day Tribute dress rehearsal on Wednesday, November 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Amity Gym.

We are still collecting pictures of our Veterans for our Veterans Day Tribute slideshow. If you have any pictures please upload them at bit.ly/AmityVeteransSlideshow or email to Mrs. McNally at mcnally.t@dpccsd.org.

In addition to the program, the second grade's service project each year is "Stockings for Soldiers." The “short list” of recommended items: hygiene & health products, games, cards, reading material, weather-protective items, and of course, candy, gum, and snacks. Items will be collected from November 1-11. All items will be taken to Mueller Funeral Home who will make holiday stockings to send to  soldiers on active duty abroad.

All donated items can be placed in the enormous stocking in the second grade hall.

Please Help Reduce Tardies To School

I recognize that as the school year rolls on, our ability to get our students up in the morning becomes harder. We need to renew our efforts in the morning to get our students up and out the door. School starts at 8:00, and our teachers are starting the educational process at that time daily. While it may not feel significant to be a couple minutes late, if done daily it will add up to a lot of educational minutes! Thank you for your help!

In Case You Missed It

No School for Students- Tuesday November 2nd

There is no school for students on Tuesday, November 2nd as it is a teacher professional development day.

Recess During Cold Weather

With a return to colder temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We will be going outside whenever the “feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or above. This gives our students time to burn some energy and allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.

Amity Awards Programs

Amity will be having their 1st quarter awards on Wednesday, November 3rd and Thursday, November 4th. Grades 1st-6th will participate in a grade level ceremony during one of the two days. Parents will not be invited to these ceremonies, but will be provided with a picture of their child after receiving the award. Following the ceremony, teachers will be reaching out by phone, email, or a note to inform parents of why the awarded student received the honor.

Holiday Food Assistance Form

The holiday season is quickly approaching. We are beginning to gather the names of families in Deer Park who, due to financial need, would appreciate holiday food assistance. If your family is in financial need and would like to be on the list to receive support this Christmas, complete the information below and return the form to any district school building as soon as possible.

Harvest Night

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our Fall Harvest Night on Thursday, November 18th. Harvest night runs from 6-7:30 p.m. with a variety of events spread throughout Amity Elementary. From 6-7 p.m. there will be literacy games and activities spread throughout the building and run by our teachers. At 7 p.m. the 3rd grade class will hold a performance in the gym. This event is free for all, so please mark your calendars. More details to come in the upcoming weeks.

Kindergarten-3rd Grade After School Enrichment

Be on the lookout for an orange paper in your student's backpack that came home on Friday if they are in K-3. These are registration forms for Amity After School Enrichment. The programs offered this session are coding and imaginative play. These programs fill quickly and are on a first come first serve basis so be sure to send these in as soon as you can! There will be other sessions offered so if your student cannot attend this session, look for signups for the next session that will start in the new year. Reach out to Katie Estep at estep.k@dpccsd.org with any questions.

Mask Reminder

Just a reminder to check with your child about having a mask before coming to school in the morning. We need to recommit to this routine to help limit how many masks we are handing out each morning. We realize there's going to be that rushed morning which one is forgotten, and we have you covered. We just need your help in cutting down on the number of students coming everyday without a mask. Thank you!

Amity Breakfast

Please remember that the Amity breakfast is for students that need to eat breakfast in the morning. Students cannot just come to the cafeteria and sit prior to going to class. They MUST take a breakfast to come in the doors between 7:30-7:45 a.m. Thank you!

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.

Thanks for all your help!

School Nurse

Moving forward, all student COVID-19 cases occurring outside of school hours (evenings/weekends) should be submitted in one of the following ways:

  • Call the Deer Park COVID Hotline at (513) 936-7843

  • Fill our the Deer Park COVID Reporting Form linked below:
