Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

Even with it being cold and dark right now, I always enjoy working morning drop-offs at Amity. It's that special time where parents turn their children over to us to become students! A big part of this ritual is those final pieces of advice parents give to the student before entering.

One morning recently, I was working the crosswalk and it was getting close to 8:00 a.m. A mother and her student came up to cross. The mother said her good-bye, and with that, the student started walking across the crosswalk rather slowly. The mother quickly chirped to her son, “walk with a purpose!” As you can imagine, he quickly picked up his pace and made it!

While this was just a quick statement from his mother, it is a lifelong message he can take with him. It is advice that can be applied to everything that he does in life! Personally, it made me reflect on the advice I give my own daughters and son before dropping them off. It was another example of the small but powerful moments that happen before entering Amity.

Take Care,

Josh

Lost and Found

We have our lost and found set up in the cafeteria for our students to view on their way to lunch or during lunch. If your student has lost something this year, please encourage them to take a closer look. We will be donating these items to the Deer Park Clothing closet at the winter break if they are not claimed.

K-3 Winter Enrichment Forms

Be on the lookout for a green paper in your student's backpack that came home on Friday if they are in K-3. These are registration forms for Amity After School Enrichment. These programs fill quickly and are on a first come first serve basis so be sure to send these in as soon as you can! A digital signup for these programs is available here. If you fill this form out online you do not need to send in the paper copy. Reach out to Katie Estep at estep.k@dpccsd.org with any questions.

Booster Seat Reminder

Please see the attached document regarding booster seat reminders for children under the age of 8 or 4 feet 9 inches. As a reminder, children under these measurements are required by state law to use a booster seat. See the flyer for more information.

In Case You Missed It

Please Help Reduce Tardies To School

I recognize that as the school year rolls on, our ability to get our students up in the morning becomes harder. We need to renew our efforts in the morning to get our students up and out the door. School starts at 8:00, and our teachers are starting the educational process at that time daily. While it may not feel significant to be a couple minutes late, if done daily it will add up to a lot of educational minutes! Thank you for your help!

Champions Program At Amity

Champions offers before and after school programs at Amity Elementary to help working parents. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Recess During Cold Weather

With a return to colder temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We will be going outside whenever the “feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or above. This gives our students time to burn some energy and allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.

Thanks for all your help!

School Nurse

Moving forward, all student COVID-19 cases occurring outside of school hours (evenings/weekends) should be submitted in one of the following ways:

  • Call the Deer Park COVID Hotline at (513) 936-7843

  • Fill our the Deer Park COVID Reporting Form linked below:

Deer Park COVID Reporting Form

A district nurse or administrator will reach out within 24 hours of the reported case to collect further details.
