What's New?
A Message from the Administrators
Hello Deer Park HIgh School Families! Happy Sunday!
It's hard to believe we are closing out the month of January and will be heading into February. Mindy and I could not be more pleased with the Teaching and Learning taking place in our classrooms. We were in multiple classrooms this week and in this edition you will get a glimpse of the instruction taking place in Ms. Landers art class.
Many exciting events are scheduled and will take place over the next several months. Our band and chorus members and their families met this week to review the itinerary for their trip to Disney on March 9th. This will be a special experience for our band and chorus! A sincere thank you to Mr. Suddendorf, Mr. Bauer, and Mr. Vetter for the detailed planning and preparation for this trip. We are going to need an additional trophy case to house all of the awards they are winning this year.
Mindy and I will continue to provide opportunities to reward our students for aiming high in our classrooms at DPHS. On Friday, January 28th a group of 100 7th and 8th grade students earned a trip to Perfect North Slopes for their hard work during the second quarter of school. These students achieved high marks in their academic classrooms, had excellent attendance, and no office referrals for discipline. A great time was had by all! A third quarter reward experience is being planned at Castle Skateland in Loveland.
Mrs. Henry is collaborating with our student council making plans for our Prom that will be held in May. Our Junior High student council is planning an upcoming Valentine's Dance under the guidance of Mr. Hills who is their DPHS sponsor. Lastly, We have a full slate of after school athletic events and after school enrichment clubs also taking place. These are just a sampling of the many events.
Exciting times at DPHS! Your Wildcat Weekly and the communication links below will keep you well informed. In the meantime, thank you to everyone who work in concert to make a difference. Our team is here to serve you. Looking forward to a terrific upcoming month of February!
Life is good!

Classroom Highlight
I was in multiple classrooms at DPHS this week. This week I am highlighting the Teaching and Learning I observed in Ms. Landers fourth bell: Advanced Ceramics class. As with all best practice lessons taught at DPHS, Ms. Landers began the lesson communicating the clear learning goal.
Learning Goal:
In this unit, the students were challenged to create/develop a personal theme for a four-piece mug set.
Each mug was required to demonstrate a different aspect of working with clay. One mug was to be created via coils, another through pinch pot, another through slab building, and lastly one was required to be thrown on the wheel.
This project allowed students to find their artistic voice while at the same time provided them the opportunity to demonstrate excellent artisanship and critical thinking skills.
The ODE Visual art standards the lesson was crafted from included: HSAD.1CR Establish a central theme for a body of work. HSAD.2CR Determine potential solutions for artistic problems with independence and purpose. HSAD.1PE Initiate sophisticated levels of artisanship through self-motivated persistence.
The success criterion for this lesson was the art product the student produced. Ms. Landers circulated around the room and assisted the student when needed. Thank you Ms. Landers for engaging the students in a creative hands-on lesson. The students were engaged and maximum minutes were invested in Teaching and Learning!!
