CINCINNATI, Ohio — On Tuesday, February 15, the Deer Park Community City School District Board of Education officially approved the hiring of John Vander Meer as the Principal of Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School for the 2022-23 school year.

Vander Meer joins Deer Park Schools following a 14-year tenure in the Forest Hills Local School District where he served at Nagel Middle School in multiple capacities including athletic director, assistant principal, and principal.

"Mr. Vander Meer endured a rigorous interview process, including interviews with Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School parents, teachers, and students," Deer Park Superintendent Jay Phillips said. "Despite a tremendous field of candidates, Mr. Vander Meer rose to the top and showed us he was just the right fit here in the Park."

Vander Meer boasts an impressive resume as an educator, featuring more than 20 years as an administrator. He cut his teeth as the Assistant Principal at Holmes Junior High School in Covington, Ky. from 2001-02. He followed with a five-year stint as the Assistant Principal at Edgewood Middle School before moving to Forest Hills Local Schools in 2008.

"I'm extremely excited and grateful to join the Deer Park family," Vander Meer told the Deer Park Board of Education on Tuesday evening. "In all of my years as an educator, I've never experienced an interview process that was quite so thorough."

Vander Meer also boasts a rich background in athletics both as an administrator and a coach. He not only has served as the Athletic Director at Nagel, but was also the Head Football Coach of Olivet Nazarene University from 1991-95.

"John's background and experience has prepared him well for this new opportunity," Phillips said. "We were looking for someone who had a proven track record as an administrator, and we certainly found our guy in Mr. Vander Meer."

Vander Meer earned his Bachelor of Arts from Kentucky State University and Master of Education from Olivet Nazarene University. He acquired his Principal's License from Xavier University.
