A Message from the Administrators
A heartfelt Happy Sunday to our Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Families!
As I reflect on the strong week of Teaching and Learning in our academic classrooms one thing stood out to me which is crucial to ensuring every student in every classroom daily reaches their fullest potential at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School. I was in an IEP meeting with a cross-sectional team of a parent, a student, teachers, and a number of our support staff and there was one collective goal. The singular goal of that meeting was everyone in attendance working in one accord to ensure the students academic needs were being met daily in the classroom. When we work together as a team for our students, there is nothing we cannot accomplish together. Together we can!
Mindy and I wish everyone a nice Sunday evening with your family. We are looking forward to the upcoming week and another opportunity to work together at conferences for our students. Information regarding conferences is included below. We are here to serve you!
Life is good!

Classroom Highlight
Typically in this section of the Wildcat Weekly, I highlight the Teaching and Learning taking place in our students' classroom. This week the roles were reversed. I am highlighting the DPHS staff that were engaged in Professional Development on our Professional Development Day on Tuesday, February 22nd. Our teachers were, in essence, students learning new ways to teach new mathematics strategies in their upcoming classes. Below is a snapshot of the work our mathematics coach, Anne Berger, led with our math teachers in her own words during professional development.
As educators, it is important to step back into the role of being a student. This action allows teachers to continue to hone in on instructional practices that are best for students. As part of their professional development day, the DPHS math teachers took part in an activity that allowed them to be the students as they worked collaboratively to do some mathematical thinking. After completing the activity, they were able to reflect on their role as a student in that moment and how they could support their own students in developing a mindset of risk taking in the math classrooms. It is their goal for students to feel comfortable thinking in math class and be creative with their strategies. They were able to define some structures they can use to support students in achieving this goal.
A special thank you to Anne for her leadership as our math coach and to our staff for growing their expertise. Super job!

Student Exemplars
Kyle Langdon Wins CHL Wrestling Championship
Last Saturday, sophomore Kyle Langdon wrestled in the CHL Wrestling Championships in the 150-pound weight class. Langdon was perfect on the day, winning four-straight matches, all by pin, to take home the title and First Team All-CHL honors.
Langdon followed the performance with a 2nd place finish in the OHSAA Sectionals this weekend, qualifying for the OHSAA District Championships next weekend. Congratulations to Kyle on this accomplishment!
