A Message from the Administrators
Hello Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Families! Happy Sunday!
The Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Learning Community is powering through the month of March delivering rigorous academic teaching and learning in every classroom every day. Mindy and I couldn't be more proud of our staff and students! The pace has accelerated as we move through the month of March. Our academic expectations are ramping up, we are preparing for our state testing window, our band/choir is heading to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. to perform, preparations are being made for Prom and Graduation, students are signing up and trying out for the spring sports season, and a boatload of after school events and concerts are taking place.
Mindy and I are looking forward to celebrating the end of this 2021-22 school year with everyone in the DPHS Family. Together we can!
Life is good!

Classroom Highlight
I am pulling back the curtain weekly so our Deer Park Families get first hand snapshots of the Teaching and Learning taking place at DPHS. This week, I observed the Teaching and Learning taking place in Amy Parker's Physics Classroom. Below is the best practice instruction I observed. Welcome to Physics!
Students were required to apply their understanding of the concepts for this week's unit to gather data and predict where a projectile will land (the range, or Δ X) when launched down a curved ramp from the top of a standard lab table.
In groups, students were required to predict and show all of their work, using any method they chose (other than trial and error). Once predictions were determined, each group shared their reasoning /work with the rest of the class. They had to clearly be able to communicate their understanding as well.
The Learning Goal was "I can apply my understanding of horizontally launched projectiles to correctly predict the range for the marble, using mathematical and experimental data as support." (Ohio Standards P.M.3: Projectile Motion). Inquiry methods and student choice are two best practice instructional methods that were used to deliver the instruction. Student mastery was determined both from the precision of each group's prediction (with supporting data) and from the thought process / reasoning behind the pathway to making their prediction.
Super job Mrs. Parker and her Physics students. Everyone was engaged and working together as a team!
