A Message from the Administrators
Hello DPHS Families! Happy Sunday!
April has arrived and our weather is perking up ushering in Spring. With Spring comes April State Accountability Testing for all public schools in the State of Ohio. Information has been provided in the last few Wildcat Weeklys and in District communications that were sent out detailing the April testing schedule.
These are high stakes tests and we at DPHS are competing with all schools in the State on Academic Testing Results. We are here to compete and WIN!
Our Staff and Students will be focused on delivering results on the State Testing and most importantly ramping up our academic rigor in all classrooms daily as work our way through the month of April. This is job 1!
Also, as we work our way through the month of April providing a safe and secure school environment is essential. Our Staff and Students will complete our State mandated tornado drill this coming week.
Mindy and I wish everyone an enjoyable Sunday evening. We are here to serve you!
LIfe is good!

Classroom Highlight
In this section of the Wildcat Weekly I typically highlight the Teaching and Learning in our classrooms highlighting a specific classroom. This week I want to dedicate this section to recognizing our students who earned the 3rd quarter Honor Roll. Recognizing our students for the difference they make daily at DPHS is something Mindy and I take very seriously. We are proud of our students! A sincere congratulations to the students listed below in the exemplary section that earned the Honor Roll. Make no mistake about it, we are here for Teaching and Learning and these students' hard work has paid off. They are academic role models at our school. Cudos!
Also, I want to personally thank the members of our DPHS Staff who serve on our Building Office Team. Their leadership and service daily guides the business we conduct with our students, staff, and families. It takes Teamwork to make that happen. A sincere thank you to Mindy Robinson, Greg Huster, Jim Wergers, Jason Sparks, Tasha Burbridge, Kristen Schlie, and Melissa Vickery for their customer service and dedication to the DPHS Learning Community daily.
Respectfully,
Bob

During Hope Week the Hope Squad encouraged the staff and students to wear different colors every day with a different symbolic meaning. Hope Squad members also created a new way to represent their "role" within the school by hosting different events for students.
-
On Monday, 3/21- Hope Squad members wore their red (courage) Hope Squad shirts.- The Hope Squad members passed out lifesavers (the candy) to students as they were walking into the building in the morning. The Hope Squad members also greeted the students and told them happy Hope week to get them excited.
-
Tuesday 3/22- Hope Squad & students wore pink for love, They encouraged students to "look for help". 6 Hope Squad logos were taped to the bottom of the lunch trays in each lunch. Students who found the logos were able to get a box of candy or a full size candy bar.
-
Wednesday 3/23- The color was yellow (happiness). The Hope Squad hosted an ice cream social in the courtyard (until it started to rain) then came into the lunch room. The students were able to meet and talk to the Hope Squad members and enjoy ice cream.
-
Thursday 3/24- The colors were purple & turquoise- suicide awareness colors. The Hope Squad encouraged students to "Take a stand against Suicide" by tracing their hand or signing their name on the HOPE banner..
-
Friday 3/25- The colors were Blue for peace and stability- Hope Squad members asked students to "write a message of Hope" on post its for other students who may need it.
-
The Hope banner and Post-It notes were hung up in the hallway going into the cafeteria so students could be reminded of it. The program was led by advisors Heather Gill and Elizabeth Moore, who said they were very excited to have had the opportunity to help the Hope Squad host a Hope Week and look forward to the future of the Hope Squad and suicide prevention in Deer Park Jr./ Sr. High School! Great work by both our Hope Squad students and staff!

Summer Learning Opportunities
Though summer break is a great time to reset and recharge, we also want to let our families know about a few learning opportunities that we will be offering:
SUMMER SCHOOL (CREDIT RECOVERY)
Our Summer School program is intended for credit recovery for any high school students who did not pass a core class (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) during the 2021-2022 school year.
Because we do not have final grades yet, you may not necessarily know if your student would qualify. While we hope to not have any students in this scenario, we also want to provide this opportunity to help our students stay on track to graduate!
The summer school program will have students placed on our Apex Online Learning platform, and students will work through topics that they have not yet mastered in order to earn a passing grade for the course. There is a small cost ($50) for each course, and our Summer School monitor will help guide students throughout the program. It is a 6 week program running from June 6th- July 18th (no school July 4th).
More information to come!
ACT BOOTCAMP
Each summer, we provide an opportunity for students to work with our teachers and an online platform to help prepare our students for success on the ACT. This summer, we will have two sessions (students would only participate in one session). Best of all, these sessions are FREE to students!
These sessions are for incoming Juniors and Seniors. If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete this form.
