Jr./Sr. High School

What's New?

A Message from the Administrators

Hello DPHS Families! Happy Sunday!

Hold on to your hats! We are flying through the month of April and before you know it, we will be diving into May. Our staff is busy to say the least focusing on our core mission of Teaching and Learning providing rigorous instruction in all academic classes. In addition, this coming week our students will be engaged in State of Ohio accountability testing. This is a key deliverable!

There are multiple sporting events and after school events upcoming including Parkers, the DPHS Prom, and Graduation being fine tuned. Your Wildcat Weekly will keep you well informed.

In the meantime, Mindy and I wish everyone a nice Easter weekend. Our team is here to serve you. Exciting times!

Life is good!

Classroom Highlight

At DPHS we are always looking to cultivate leadership opportunities for our students. I always highlight academics weekly and developing leaders at our school is also important. In order to accomplish that goal we are always looking for opportunities for our students to engage in professional business forums which make a difference at DPHS.

Below is a brief from Karen Henry who is on the point with our High School Prom this year. What makes this event work is the folks behind the scenes who do the heavy lifting and that takes leadership. Hat's off to Karen Henry, our sponsor for this year's Prom and to all of the student leaders below who are collaborating with Karen to make this a special event for all students who will be attending. Super job!

A business brief from Karen Henry:

It has been a tremendous pleasure to work with such a talented group of students. Over the last several months I have worked alongside some of the class officers and their classmates, as they have designed, planned, and budgeted for a long overdue event. With COVID being the majority of their high school experience, it is clear they want to make sure their peers get the best experience possible to make up for lost time.

Grace Heringer, Grace Lyons and Elizabeth Watson, all Junior class officers, have put aside time weekly over the months to check in and attend meetings as needed. Together they have ensured timelines are being met for decor, supplies, and vendors throughout the planning process. The girls have worked side-by-side to generate funds through different fundraisers, budget expenses, and most importantly, make sure this event reflects the wants of their fellow classmates. Jayden Steely, Sarah Hieob and Maddie Drennan also played a key part in making sure our largest fundraiser was a huge hit!

As the big day quickly approaches, I would like to take time to recognize our Junior class leaders for all of their hard work! Deer Park's Roaring 22 Prom will be hosted on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Mayerson JCC.

Karen Henry

Summer Learning Opportunities

Though summer break is a great time to reset and recharge, we also want to let our families know about a few learning opportunities that we will be offering:

SUMMER SCHOOL (CREDIT RECOVERY)

Our Summer School program is intended for credit recovery for any high school students who did not pass a core class (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) during the 2021-2022 school year.

Because we do not have final grades yet, you may not necessarily know if your student would qualify.  While we hope to not have any students in this scenario, we also want to provide this opportunity to help our students stay on track to graduate!

The summer school program will have students placed on our Apex Online Learning platform, and students will work through topics that they have not yet mastered in order to earn a passing grade for the course.  There is a small cost ($50) for each course, and our Summer School monitor will help guide students throughout the program.  It is a 6 week program running from June 6th- July 18th (no school July 4th).

More information to come!

ACT BOOTCAMP

Each summer, we provide an opportunity for students to work with our teachers and an online platform to help prepare our students for success on the ACT.  This summer, we will have two sessions (students would only participate in one session).  Best of all, these sessions are FREE to students!

  • Session 1: June 20th - June 29th  (8:00am - 12:00pm)

  • Session 2: August 1st - August 9th (8:00am - 12:00pm)

These sessions are for incoming Juniors and Seniors.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete this form.
