What's New?
From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
A math coach from West Clermont School District reached out to me in March and asked to bring a team of educators to come see the teaching and learning that is going on at Amity Elementary. They specifically wanted to see the math curriculum that we use in grades K-5, as they are in the midst of a district wide math adoption. This past Thursday, six West Clermont educators were welcomed into Mrs. Scheidt and Mrs. Hoops 1st grade classrooms to see and hear our 1st grade mathematicians in action. Trust me when I say that our students didn’t disappoint!
We adopted the Bridges Math curriculum a little over three years ago. By now, you probably know that the way that the curriculum teaches math is much different than the math you or I went through in Elementary school. Students visually observe their math problems through manipulatives or stories, and then use taught math tools and techniques to solve problems. There are multiple ways a student could get to an answer! I just did the problem the way the teacher told me when I was growing up.
I brag about the story above because I see the great teaching and learning that occurs from this curriculum. I know our students are growing from the choice that the district made! What adds an extra layer of validation to this choice is the fact that districts like West Clermont, along with two others, have come to see this curriculum in action. They have heard about the learning that this curriculum instills in students and wish to be like Amity!
Take Care,
Josh

Did your child come home with a cat card sticker this week? Our students receive a cat card when they display a safe, respectful, or responsible behavior. Even better, their name is then entered into a drawing to become a weekly winner! If they are a weekly winner they get another prize. All of this fun in recognizing positive behaviors is part of our PBIS system.

Ohio State Testing
5th graders have Math testing this week!
Students in grades 3-6 are gearing up for the state AIR assessment. This is an opportunity for students to show all that they know and demonstrate all of the hard work that they have put in this school year! It is very important that students are well rested and have a good breakfast, especially on testing days.
Please see the dates below for testing:
-
April 19th (Tuesday) and April 20th (Wednesday)- 5th Grade Math
-
April 26th (Tuesday) and April 27th (Wednesday)-3rd, 4th, 6th Grade Math; 5th Grade Science
6th Grade Social Update- Change Of Calendar Date

This year the 6th grade social is scheduled for Friday, May 13th from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Amity Elementary. (This date is different from the printed district calendars passed out in August.) Please Help Reduce Tardies To School
I recognize that as the school year rolls on, our ability to get our students up in the morning becomes harder. We need to renew our efforts in the morning to get our students up and out the door. School starts at 8:00, and our teachers are starting the educational process at that time daily. While it may not feel significant to be a couple minutes late, if done daily it will add up to a lot of educational minutes! Thank you for your help!
Champions Program At Amity
Champions offers before and after school programs at Amity Elementary to help working parents. Please see the attached flier for more information.
Attendance
Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.
This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.
Thanks for all your help!
