Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

We had the honor of hosting a distinguished Deer Park Alumni on Tuesday of this week. Emily Harness came to share the children’s book that she authored, Allie the Albino Squirrel. Our K-3 students enjoyed a reading of the book from Emily! Along with the reading, Emily shared photos of her time as a student in Deer Park, along with the help that teachers gave in inspiring her to be a writer. This was a powerful message for our students to hear!

We adopted a new curriculum, Being a Writer, this past year. We have seen tremendous growth in our students' ability and stamina to write by following this curriculum. It was icing on the cake to show them someone who was once in their shoes now doing it professionally!

I’d like to thank Holie Oiler, our Amity librarian, for helping to coordinate such a great experience for our students! I’d also like to thank Emily for coming in to give back and inspire our students!

Take Care,

Josh

KIDS Walk-A-Thon

Our students in Grades K-6 will be participating in the K.I.D.S. Walk-a-Thon at the high school on Monday, May 16th. Students will travel to the high school to take a couple of laps around the track with their classmates. Please remember to send in permission slips and bring in money raised on Monday. Gym shoes and a water bottle for the walk is also a great idea!

Amity 4th Quarter Awards

Amity will be having their 4th quarter awards on Friday, May 20th and Monday, May 23rd. Grades 1st-6th will participate in a grade level ceremony during one of the two days. Parents will not be invited to these ceremonies, but will be provided with a picture of their child after receiving the award. Following the ceremony, teachers will be reaching out by phone, email, or a note to inform parents of why the awarded student received the honor.

Field Day

Amity Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th. We look forward to returning to Chamberlin Park for this end-of-year tradition. A sack lunch will be provided for those students who wish to receive one. Included in the lunch will be: a hot dog on bun, baby carrots, apple slices, a special snack and apple juice. On Field Day, send your child to school with the proper footwear, comfortable clothing, a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. Please be on the lookout for a walking permission slip from your child’s homeroom teacher.

Last Day Of School

Our last day of school will be Thursday, May 26th. It will be a ½ day for students, so that teachers can prepare grade cards in the afternoon. Students will be released at 11:05 a.m. that day.

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, by 9AM if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord. We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.

Thanks for all your help!
