Deer Park Jr/Sr High School Wildcat Weekly: May 15, 2022

Jr./Sr. High School

What's New?

A Message from the Administrators

Hello DPHS Families! Happy Sunday!

Our DPHS staff and students powered through a very productive week of Teaching and Learning. We were focused and on point!

As we close out the last few weeks of the 2021-22 school year our DPHS school community is celebrating our students and our Deer Park Schools Families in multiple ways. Our DPHS Prom last weekend was a huge success and a special thank you to Karen Henry who was on the point planning and organizing the event. A great time was had by everyone in attendance! Our boys baseball team celebrated their Senior Night last week with a win over Finneytown. We held several award ceremonies including Military and Academic Signing Day, our Underclass Awards Presentation Ceremony, our Honor Society Induction. We also hosted an after-school Ice Cream Social to name a few of the many events happening to close the year at Deer Park Schools.

We are closing out the school year in style with multiple events. Your Wildcat Weekly is your key source to all of the events taking place at DPHS. Do not hesitate calling our school office with any questions. Our office team is here to serve you! In the meantime, have a terrific Sunday evening with your family.

Student Exemplars

  • Cami Lewis Wins State! Congratulations to 8th grader Cami Lewis on her record-breaking 1st place finish in the OHSAA Middle School discus Saturday! Lewis finished with a throw of 117-08, which was not only the best 8th grader in the state, but also set a meet record! She also finished third in the shot put! Excellent work from Cami!

Summer Learning Opportunities

Though summer break is a great time to reset and recharge, we also want to let our families know about a few learning opportunities that we will be offering:

SUMMER SCHOOL (CREDIT RECOVERY)

Our Summer School program is intended for credit recovery for any high school students who did not pass a core class (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) during the 2021-2022 school year.

Because we do not have final grades yet, you may not necessarily know if your student would qualify.  While we hope to not have any students in this scenario, we also want to provide this opportunity to help our students stay on track to graduate!

The summer school program will have students placed on our Apex Online Learning platform, and students will work through topics that they have not yet mastered in order to earn a passing grade for the course.  There is a small cost ($50) for each course, and our Summer School monitor will help guide students throughout the program.  It is a 6 week program running from June 6th- July 18th (no school July 4th).

More information to come!

ACT BOOTCAMP

Each summer, we provide an opportunity for students to work with our teachers and an online platform to help prepare our students for success on the ACT.  This summer, we will have two sessions (students would only participate in one session).  Best of all, these sessions are FREE to students!

  • Session 1: June 20th - June 29th  (8:00am - 12:00pm)

  • Session 2: August 1st - August 9th (8:00am - 12:00pm)

These sessions are for incoming Juniors and Seniors.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete this form.

Building news

  • Walk-a-thon Information: Monday, May 16, Deer Park students will be participating in the Keep Improving Deer Park Schools (K.I.D.S) Walk-a-Thon at Harry Yeaggy Family Stadium. Please remember to wear gym shoes and bring a water bottle for the walk!

  • Graduation Information: Weather permitting, graduation will be held on Hank Estes Field. Families may invite as many members as they like.
Should there be inclement weather, Graduation will be moved to Crawford Auditorium. Should Graduation be moved to Crawford Auditorium, each student will receive a total of 8 graduation tickets (5 on the floor and 3 in the balcony). Please note that a ticket is required for admittance. Regardless of location, the event will be live streamed.

  • Complete the Hamilton County Broadband Survey to have your say!
Does your current broadband internet service in Hamilton County meet your current and future needs?
Can you stream movies, or have a Zoom meeting while someone is online gaming in the other room with no screen freeze or “spinning circle”?
Completing the Hamilton County Broadband Survey includes your voice in planning for future-ready broadband throughout Hamilton County.
With funding available to expand and improve broadband services, now is the time to ask, “Is my internet service acceptable today – and for the next 20 years?”
If you’ve never had an internet connection problem, never mind; do nothing. Otherwise, click here to take the survey.
