The Amity Weekly Minute: August 21, 2022

Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

It was a great first week of school! The positive energy in Amity was contagious, as students entered and got right to work. Staff and students spent early parts of the week building relationships, establishing routines, and setting expectations for the year.

Mrs. Warman and I visited all of our homerooms this week to introduce ourselves and reinforce expectations for the school year. Our students know what we expect at Amity, as they shared with Mrs. Warman and I our Amity PBIS expectations of “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, & Be Safe!” Be on the lookout for your student coming home with a silver sticker, as that indicates that we saw them exhibiting one of those behaviors that day! Please tell your child how proud you are of their amazing behavior!

We are looking forward to more great weeks moving forward!

Take Care,

Josh

MAP Testing

MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing in reading, reading fluency and math will start occurring next week and into September. We take these tests in the fall to gather baseline data regarding where our students are academically. These online tests allow us to understand where students are currently in the tested subject area, so that we are better able to tailor how we teach them. We will take them in the winter and spring to check progress during the school year. This will encompass all of our grades at Amity. This is not a high stakes test, like the Ohio State Tests, but we do always want our students to do their best. I just wanted to keep you informed that they will be occurring in our classes.

Girls on the Run

Amity Elementary hosts Girls on the Run!

Girls on the Run is open to girls in grades 3-5 at Amity.  GOTR encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others.  The curriculum blends physical activity with skill development that enables girls to adapt to whatever comes their way.  Girls registered for GOTR will have practice Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:30 and will train for a 5K on November 19, 2022 at Sawyer Point. Please contact Callen Fowler or Amy McKnight for further questions at 513-891-5995.

In Case You Missed It

Welcome Back Letter

If you missed our release on Wednesday, August 3rd I have created a link that will take you to that information. This release shared many of the details necessary to help get the year started including arrival and dismissal process, along with many more details of the day at Amity.

Breakfast at Amity

Just a friendly reminder that students must purchase breakfast to enter the cafeteria between 7:30-7:45. With the expiration of the USDA’s Free Meals for Students initiative, breakfast will no longer be free for all students. I just wanted to put this on parents' radars so that charges from breakfast don’t pile up. If you believe you might qualify for free breakfast and lunch due a financial hardship, please see the information below.

Free and Reduced Lunch Updates

As you may recall, the past two school years all public schools, including Deer Park Schools, took advantage of the USDA free meals waiver for students. Unfortunately, this program expired on June 30, 2022. This school year, Deer Park families will once again have to pay for their school meals.

For Deer Park families who may continue to qualify for free or reduced meals based on income or other qualifying factors, please complete the free and reduced meal application form online through FinalForms. If, for some reason, you are having trouble accessing the form through FinalForms, you can print off a hard copy and email the completed hard copy to Brianna Listermann at listermann.b@dpccsd.org. You may also turn the hard copy into Betty Hollander at the Board of Education office located at 8688 Donna Ln., Cincinnati, OH 45236. The hard copy of the free and reduced application form can be found here:
