Deer Park Administration and Deer Park Senior Student Leadership Joint Statement on Graduation 2020

The Deer Park Administration, Deer Park Senior Class Advisors, and the Senior Student Leaders of the Deer Park Class of 2020 met to discuss the current graduation options for the Class of 2020 based on guidance that has been given to us by the Ohio Department of Education in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Health.

We first want to state that this is a very unfortunate situation and our hearts go out to the individuals and families that have been impacted by this terrible COVID-19 disease.  In many ways, this disease has impacted all of us directly, especially the Senior Class of 2020.

The options for graduation that have been laid out for us are not ideal in any way.  However, we understand that at this point, what we have to do is choose the best of the worst options that have been presented to us.  After reviewing and discussing the details and implications of each option, we feel that a virtual graduation is going to be the safest and best option for everyone involved.

We are working with Local12 WKRC to utilize their professional production team to create a virtual graduation to remember.  Local12 has agreed to air our virtual graduation on one of their three affiliate channels; either Local12, Star64, or the CW channel.  Again, while not ideal, we feel like this is a unique opportunity for the Class of 2020 and we are looking forward to our partnership with Local12.

In addition to our virtual graduation, we are planning a Deer Park Class of 2020 recognition event in December during most university’s Christmas Break where we can bring back together the Class of 2020 and celebrate them as they deserve to be celebrated.  The Class of 2020 has worked exceptionally hard to achieve this great accomplishment and we can’t wait to gather together with friends and family and recognize all of our outstanding seniors.

Further details regarding the virtual graduation will be communicated to the entire senior class within the next few days.  We appreciate everyone’s support and understanding regarding this difficult decision and we look forward to making this the best virtual graduation we can.

Sincerely,
Deer Park Administration, Deer Park Senior Class Advisors, and Deer Park Senior Student Council Representatives
