Class of 2020: Everything You Need to Know | Senior Updates, May 8th

With today, May 8th, 2020, marking the last of the school year for our Seniors, we want to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the Class of 2020!  We are proud of you!

What an unpredictably strange way to finish your academic career at Deer Park Jr/Sr High School!  Whether it has been lessons learned your 7th grade year for how to be organized or lessons learned your senior year for how to overcome unique challenges, we hope you will take your education from Deer Park as a launching point for achieving great things!

Please remember to always Help Others, Help Your World, and Help Yourselves.

Graduation Ceremony Update

Last week, we announced plans for a "virtual" 2020 Graduation Celebration.  For a link to that information, please click here.

Earlier this week, we received approval from the Hamilton County Public Health Department and the Deer Park Police Department to have a modified in-person "drive-through" graduation ceremony.  For a link to that information, please click here.  We are excited to be able to offer this in addition to the Virtual Graduation!

We will continue to update information for students and families over the course of the next two weeks, and we will send out specific information for the logistics of our May 21st event later next week.

Our senior student leaders have done an outstanding job in this process.  A huge hats off to our leaders.  If at any time you have any further questions or concerns, parents should not reach out to our students.  Instead, please reach out to me at hartley.s@dpccsd.org

Virtual Academic Signing Day

Today we released our Virtual Signing Day video!  Please use this link to be taken to our Virtual Academic Signing Day video!  We have a lot of graduating seniors to be proud of!

Fees

As noted above, students will need to have their student fees paid off before picking up their Cap and Gowns.  Any student who wishes to keep their Chromebooks for a later date return may do so, but these students will not receive their diploma until their Chromebooks and chargers are returned.

Parents/Guardians may pay for their student fees online using the EZ Pay accounts.  The link can be found on the Deer Park website, or by clicking here for direct access.

Returns and Diploma Pick-Ups

We are working on details for a final drop-off for our seniors.  This is tentatively set for May 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This will be the time for students to return their Chromebooks/chargers and books that they may still have been using.  This is also the time that students will need to drop off their gowns from the graduation ceremony from the day before.  Lastly, this will be an opportunity for students to pick up their actual physical diploma.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Senior Spotlights

During the month of May, we will be featuring the Class of 2020. We are creating social media graphics that will be shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram featuring members of our senior class. All you need to do to participate is fill out the form below and include an image (Senior photo, portrait, etc.). We will feature up to five seniors each day until all of our Class of 2020 has been recognized!

Senior Spotlight Submission

Prom

We have previously communicated the backup date for Prom as Friday, June 19th.  We still are planning on holding Prom on June 19th.  However, due to the uncertainty of our ability to have large gatherings, we have a backup date, if needed, set for Saturday, July 18th.

This is of course a long time away, and we will continue to communicate any change of plans as needed.  We will also be sharing information with the junior class in regards to voting for Prom Court through Schoology, and students should look for that information starting the week of May 11th.

Please note that, unfortunately, our After Prom has had to be canceled for this year.

Senior Photos and Yearbook Information

Earlier this week, Dr. West posted information on the Class of 2020 Schoology page for information for the yearbook.  In cased you missed it, here is a summary of the information:

This year’s yearbook will feature a much more in-depth senior section, including not just a spotlight on seniors this year, but also covering all of their time at Deer Park.  To buy a yearbook, go to https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/Order/SelectTask.  The code needed is: 13951320.

Because of the stay-at-home order, some senior photo appointments may have been canceled. Dr. West will accept professional quality photos to be included in the yearbook this year.  If students had a senior picture session with another photographer, they may send Dr. West the file for the yearbook (west.c@dpccsd.org).

Students MUST get your photo taken by Prestige Portraits in order to be included in the composite photo.  They print it and will only use their own photos.  While the The Prestige / Lifetouch “Last Chance” day, when they come to the school, has obviously been postponed, we have been working with the company to establish a “Last Chance” day at the school once it is safe to do so. There is not a firm date yet, but this will be communicated as soon as possible.
